2013 doesn't seem to be my year. I had been hospitalized twice since the start of the new year.
The first time was due to acute pancreatitis where I was confined for more than a week starting January 2. Even with a health insurance, we still had to shell out quite a substantial amount as the Philhealth gave only a measly P11T and the health insurance covered less than half of the total bill.
My diet had been limited to boiled, steamed or grilled fish and vegetables. No oil nor dairy products for me. I was devastated since one of my few vices is food.
On February 15, I had to go back to the emergency room as I was not really feeling well, bloated and shortness of breath. I was diagnosed with a kidney problem as my creatinine level was very high and i was unable to urinate. A dialysis catheter was inserted in my neck a few days after my confinement as it was recommended that I undergo hemodialysis (HD). Of my nine days in confinement, I had to undergo HD five times.
I was told that I will have to undergo HD three times a week for 6 months and will be under observation. Philhealth, fortunately, will cover a few dozens of HD sessions. However, if this will be a lifetime procedure, I have no idea where I will be able to source my funds for the rest of my HDs.
It has been more than a week since I was discharged from the hospital but it is only this time that I am coming to accept my predicament, that my travel will be restricted and no more rich food for me. I am now gaining my strength again and my wife and daughter's support, have kept me going.
I was wandering if there are travelers/food fanatics out there who are in the same situation as me?

I'm sorry to hear that. It must be very difficult for you to be restricted in your travels. I know how expensive getting sick can be. As always, we should prioritize our health. Will be praying for your recovery!

Omg! Noel, so sorry to hear about all those bad news! My heartfelt condolence to you and family for the demise of your mom. Gosh! Looks like 2013 is really not a good year eh.
Rest assured, you're included in my prayers. Just keep the faith and by God's grace, everything will be alright. Take care Noel!
Awww, I'm very sorry to hear about your health problems, Noel, and my sincere condolences to you and your family regarding your mom passing away. I will keep you and yours in my prayers. Life can be very difficult; 2011 was my rough year with my wife's breast cancer diagnosis and mastectomy followed shortly after by my mom passing away. But as Beng Gee said, keep the faith and everything will be alright... my wife is doing great and you will be fine too if you follow the doc's advice, and our moms are in a much better place with no worries. Hang in there, things will get better!
Ohhh...I'm sorry to hear that. I pray you'll get better and FIT too! SO that you can travel again anytime you like. Remember health comes first for it is our wealth.
Cheers!
